Hedy Lamarr was known as a beautiful Hollywood actress. Her inventive instincts were not mentioned when she achieved entertainment fame. During World War II, when most nations and people were stressed out in fear, Hedy Lamarr, with the help of George Antheil, created a radio guidance system for torpedoes. Though invented to support the Allied forces, it was never used in the war.

But Hedy Lamarr got it patented on 11 August 1942. The technology behind the system was so advanced that it was not easy to implement. It took almost five decades of technology enhancement to catch up with Hedy Lamarr’s patented system. Today, her invention plays an important role in the implementation of WiFI, Bluetooth and modern CDMA networks.

It was not until years later that Hedy Lamarr was recognized for her invention. In 1997, she was given the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award. In addition, she also pocketed the Bulbie Gnass Spirit of Achievement Bronze Award, which was only given to people who have made lifetime contributions in the fields of arts, business or inventions.

In 2014, Lamarr was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

He convinced Hedy Lamarr to change her name and introduced her to Hollywood. He did the groundwork for Lamarr, often referring to her as the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman”.

Soon, Hedy Lamarr was the center of attraction in Hollywood. Her debut in Algiers had everyone talking about her brilliant performance. She took everyone’s breath away with her beauty. Louis B.Mayer’s claim that Lamarr was the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman” was true after all.
