Did Freddie Mercury Fix His Teeth?

Freddie Mercury was one of the most popular singers in his generation. He was the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Queen spawned hits such as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Killer Queen”, “Somebody to Love” and “We are the Champions”.

With Freddie Mercury churning out hit after hit, many started to wonder whether his teeth played a part in his strong vocals. Known for his protruding upper front teeth, Mercury was known to hit high notes with wrenching power. Question remains, did his teeth play a major role in his musical career?

Let’s take a look over the years of Freddie Mercury and see how his teeth evolved.

Freddie Mercury Teeth Over The Years

Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar in 1946 and moved to India when he was eight. One of his earliest pictures showed him wearing a ring of flowers smiling at the camera. He had great charisma even as a child. Check it out:

Freddie Mercury was described by his mother as a very polite child. There was no doubt that Mercury was a responsible kid. The photo below shows him protecting a younger girl. The way he stood in the photo showed his air of confidence. His two front teeth were for all to see.

Here is another early photo of Freddie Mercury showing off his set of teeth and a “Best Achiever” Cup at his boarding school. His teeth were already a prominent feature during his younger days. Check it out:

There was a time before Queen started their string of concerts around the world. The photo below marked a time (1973) during rehearsals before their first major tour. Freddie Mercury was clean shaven then. Frankly, his teeth did not look too bad.

Credit: Michael Putland /Getty Images

And here he was in Copenhagen, Denmark back in 1977. You can see the gap in his teeth, though he looked relaxed.

Credit: Jorgen Angel/Getty Images

During a press conference (1978) for the launch of Queen’s album, “Jazz”, Freddie Mercury showed that his front teeth were no barrier to success. Wearing a sleeveless top, Mercury smiled at the cameras. Nice shot.

Credit: Michael Ochs Archives/ Getty Images

Here is another photo of Queen performing on stage in 1978. Brimming with strong emotions, Freddie Mercury was immersed in his music. Did the gap between his front teeth contribute to his strong vocals? Only he knows.

Credit: Richard E.Aaron/ Getty Images

One of Freddie Mercury’s ability was to engage his audience to the max. He placed tremendous effort to arouse the emotions of his fans. The photo below taken at a concert in Manchester showed Freddie Mercury engrossed in his song.

Credit: Kevin Cummins/Getty Images

Freddie Mercury performed in as many as 700 concerts around the world. David Bowie once said that Freddie Mercury “took it over the edge” in his concerts. Even the last person at the edge of the concert could feel connected to Freddie Mercury. Such was the power of his stage presence. The photo below shows him performing at a concert in 1980 at the Rosemont Horizon. His jagged teeth were obvious.

Credit: Paul Natkin/Getty Images

The photo below shows Freddie Mercury preforming in his tight white pants adorned with a red belt. His teeth clearly helped him in expressing his aggression. The photo showed that his teeth played an important role in his overall image. Check it out:

Credit: Steve Jennings /Getty Images

The photo below shows Freddie Mercury at the peak of his career. He was performing at the Live Aid concert held at Wembley Stadium in 1985. His charisma on stage was unmatched, even till today. His signature moustache and tight fitting singlet made him an instant icon. From this angle, you can see the gap between his front teeth.

Credit: Dave Hogan Getty Images

In case you did not get a good look, here is another shot of Freddie Mercury performing live on stage in 1985. He brought new meaning to rock and roll. Sweat plus great voice and a set of stunning teeth…Truly a legend.

Credit: Phil Dent Getty Images

In 1986, Freddie Mercury showcased his emotions in a bright yellow outfit at the Wembley Stadium. His protruding teeth added tenacity to his songs. Undoubtedly, without his teeth, Freddie Mercury would have lost his aura of invincibility. Check it out:

Credit: Phil Dent Getty Images

Overall, Freddie Mercury was an amazing performer. His teeth became integral to his live performances. While some say that his teeth helped him in his singing prowess, other say his teeth added much to his onstage persona. Whatever it may be, no one can take away the fact that Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest rockers of all time.
